Project Description: The Sindh Coastal Resilience Integrated Programme (SCRIP) is a two-year initiative working to strengthen the resilience of vulnerable coastal communities in the districts of Thatta and Sujawal. The programme focuses on building the adaptive capacities of communities through the development of Coastal Resilience Plans, the promotion of disaster mitigation and adaptation solutions, and the implementation of community-based disaster risk management (CBDRM) approaches to reduce coastal flood risks.
SCRIP supports sustainable livelihoods by introducing regenerative farming practices, improving marine-based income opportunities, and piloting clean energy solutions, including the provision of solar technologies for households and communities. In parallel, the programme improves access to safe water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) services through the installation of solar-powered water filtration systems, the construction of solar RO plants for clean drinking water, and the development of school and community-level sanitation facilities. These initiatives are complemented by health and hygiene education campaigns aimed at promoting long-term behavioural change.
Through these interventions, SCRIP works to reduce pressure on fragile coastal ecosystems, enhance food and water security, and build the resilience of communities to the growing impacts of climate change.
