AKRSP Trains 25 Government School Teachers as Foundational Learning and Numeracy (FLN) Mentors in Gilgit-Baltistan

The Aga Khan Rural Support Programme (AKRSP) concluded a 10-day Training of Mentors on Foundational Learning and Numeracy (FLN), equipping 25 government school teachers from all ten districts of Gilgit-Baltistan with skills to strengthen early childhood delopement in Gilgit-Baltistan.

The training was conducted under a UNICEF-funded project being implemented by AKRSP in collaboration with the School Education Department, Government of Gilgit-Baltistan, with technical support from the Aga Khan Education Service Pakistan (AKESP).

The project aims to establish Early Childhood Development (ECD) classrooms in 150 government schools across Gilgit-Baltistan and train 300 ECD teachers, two teachers from each school—to improve the quality of early childhood development. The trained mentors will subsequently cascade the knowledge, teaching approaches, and training methodologies to teachers in their respective districts, ensuring the effective rollout of the programme.

Mr. Zulfiqar Ali Khan, Director Education Gilgit, School Education Department, Government of Gilgit-Baltistan, attended the closing ceremony as the chief guest. Speaking on the occasion, he appreciated the collaborative efforts of AKRSP, UNICEF, AKESP, and the School Education Department in strengthening foundational learning and numeracy and enhancing the professional capacity of government school teachers in GB.
