Project Description: RENEW is a multi-sectoral initiative funded by Global Affairs Canada, designed to strengthen disaster preparedness, support post-flood recovery, and build long-term climate resilience in some of Pakistan’s most vulnerable coastal and mountainous communities. The project specifically addresses the impacts of the 2022 floods and aims to improve the resilience of flood-affected and at-risk populations, with a strong focus on women, girls, and marginalised groups.

The AKRSP part aims to improve the recovery of livelihoods, agriculture, and food security in flood-affected communities, with a strong emphasis on women and girls.. RENEW adopts an innovative, locally-led approach by tailoring interventions to the distinct climate vulnerabilities of target areas and promoting inclusive, community-driven solutions. Through strategic public-private partnerships and multi-level stakeholder engagement, the project fosters local ownership, gender equality, and long-term sustainability.

Its interventions include the rehabilitation of damaged irrigation systems and land reclamation to restore agricultural productivity; provision of seeds, tools, and livestock to improve agriculture and food security; and promotion of climate-smart and organic farming practices. The organisation is also supporting enterprise development, vocational training, and youth-led entrepreneurship through the START – Apna Karobar programme.

Through participatory wealth ranking and poverty targeting, AKRSP ensures that women and vulnerable groups are prioritised in recovery initiatives. The organisation is strengthening Local Support Organisations (LSOs), Women’s Organisations (WOs), and Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) to enhance local ownership and accountability, while also promoting afforestation, soil stabilisation, and regenerative agriculture to contribute to climate resilience.

By integrating livelihood restoration with women’s empowerment and environmental sustainability, the RENEW Project is enabling flood-affected communities to rebuild stronger, more inclusive, and climate-resilient futures.
